Students have access to
a wide range of technical information and resource materials at AVTEC’s
library. Over 7,000 titles in the library’s collection are
devoted to training related materials to support students in their
vocational areas. To learn more about the
Jack Werner Memorial
Library, click here.
If that isn’t enough,
AVTEC’s library is a member of the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC)
which allows patrons to access library holdings from all over the
world. Students can find recreational reading with novels, magazines, and keep current
on news from home with the collection of
newspapers from all over the state. Students will also find resources to
make the search for a job and application process more effective.
Students can stay in touch with family and friends as well as initiate
the search for a job and learn basic computer skills in the library’s
multimedia computer lab. Access to the Internet and up-to-date word
processing, database, and spreadsheet software offer students unlimited
resources. Students can learn to type, write a resume, or design a house
with the wide range of topics available on CD. Assistance is available to
learn basic computer skills, access the Internet, and set up e-mail
accounts.

More than anything, we are here to
make sure your education at AVTEC is a success. Each of our training
programs has analyzed what students need to succeed in their program.
The number one factor is motivation. Second to that is good math and
reading skills. All of the AVTEC departments have entry guidelines for
reading and math. Some programs have added entry requirements for
testing or course prerequisites. Check the program you are applying to
carefully for these entrance requirements.
If you want to see how your skills
match up to a program’s entry guidelines or requirements, contact Admissions,
224-3322. Testing may be arranged by AVTEC, referred to a local testing center,
or administered in your home town by proctor.

Technical Mathematics teaches basic mathematics as it applies to a
specific training area. These classes are part of the training program
for Business and Office Technology, Culinary Arts, Automotive
Technology, Diesel/Heavy Equipment Technology, and Facility Maintenance.
Students in other training areas will find support available for the
mathematics skills needed in their programs. LRD can help students
determine what math skills are needed to be most successful in a program
before entering. Instructors recommend advance preparation if needed.
