Where is AVTEC located?

AVTEC’s main campus is located in Seward, Alaska, 120 miles south of Anchorage on the Kenai Peninsula. AVTEC has an Allied Health Department in Anchorage. For addresses and maps, go to our maps page.

What are the minimum admission requirements to attend AVTEC?

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
    Applicants under 18 will require concurrence of a parent or guardian and approval by the Director/Assistant Director. However, minimum age to reside in AVTEC housing is 18.
  • Be an Alaskan resident.
    Non-residents may enroll on a space available basis. Non-resident tuition is double the amount listed for residents. Other costs (fees, tools, room, and board) are the same as Alaskan residents.
  • High school diploma or GED.
    Applicants must provide a high school or GED transcript. Without a diploma or GED, you must pass an "ability to benefit" test before admission. For more information, contact the Admissions Office at 800-478-5389.
  • Meet program prerequisites.
    Programs may have specific admission requirements or prerequisites. Read the program description carefully.

How do I apply to AVTEC?

The application process is simple and applications may be submitted at any time. You can:

A nonrefundable application fee of $25, a copy of a picture ID, and a copy of your high school or GED results must be sent with applications for long-term programs (those lasting 6 weeks or more).

What are the options for housing while attending training at AVTEC?

  • Dormitories are available on campus next to the cafeteria and recreation center. Minimum age is 18 for acceptance into the dormitories.
  • AVTEC also has furnished apartments for students with families.
  • Off-campus housing is also available.

How much does it cost to attend training at AVTEC?

Is there Financial Aid available?

Yes, AVTEC accepts funding from most funding sources. Federal Pell Grants, Federal Stafford Loans, Federal Plus Loans, Alaska Supplemental Education Loans (formerly the Alaska Student Loan Program), and Alaska Family Education Loans are available to qualified students. Other financial aid sources include: Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA), regional and local Native Corporations, Alaska Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA).

When do the training programs start and how long are they?
